Ridu bristle fescue
It is a grassy plant in the family of grasses. It is a special species with unusual requirements. It grows everywhere, other reptile grasses fail. It is a component of many lawn mixtures. Increases their durability. Striking small leaves with a dark green color contribute to achieving your dream lawn. The exceptionally slow growth rate allows for infrequent mowing. It has minimal fertilization needs. It is suitable for establishing lawns in dry areas with sandy barren soil. It works great in extensive areas with a high degree of sunlight.
Name: Bristle fescue of Ridu variety. Often known as sheep or grass fescue
Latin Name: Festuca ovina trachyphylla cv. Ridu
Life form: Perennial grass that grows very slowly and evenly. It starts vegetation early and is not aggressive towards other species
Habit: appears in the form of small, compact clumps with generative shoots not higher than 50 cm. Stems straight, erect and rough under the inflorescence. Develops a strong root system. It produces dense, compact, low-growing turf.
Foliage: leaves in complex type buds. Leaf blade thin, short, rough and stiff, with distinct ribs. Tongues short, round ears pointing upwards. Leaf sheaths open, hairy. The color of the leaves is gray-green, dark.
Inflorescence: Clustered double panicle with spikelets containing 3-8 flowers.
Application: sheep fescue can be found in difficult habitat conditions. It is used for sowing utility areas such as airports, large squares, recreational and sports places, roadsides and green belts by roads. Both in pure sowing and in a single-species mixture, with other fescue, it will be perfect for a dry and sunny area. It requires minimal amounts of water and nutrients to grow. The grass obtained from sheep's fescue is dense, resistant to trampling, slowly growing, of high quality. A plant of great importance against wind erosion. As fodder grass, it is of little importance due to its low nutritional value and low palatability of the species.
Position: It is a plant that likes places with acidic, dry and phosphorus-poor soil. The substrate should be light, sandy and well-drained.
Frost resistance: Winter-hardy grass, tolerates very low temperatures well.
